My name is Lorene; over the years I’ve been called “Mac”, “Lori”, “Creampuff”, “Knitz2”, and a few less complimentary things.  I own a small yarn shop in southeast Kansas where I spend my days crocheting, knitting, playing on the computer, reading about crocheting and knitting, and thinking about actually getting around to writing up some of those pattern notes I use for classes into “real patterns”.

I live within 30 miles of where I was born and spent my youth, returning here after a 34 year adventure of living in Arizona.  While I love the climate there, I wanted to be nearer my family as old age approaches.  I’m mother of 2 (son & daughter), grandmother of 3, step-grandmother of 3, and great grandmother of 1; children’s ages range from 21 to 6 and I usually refer to them as “my grands”.

After failing to learn to crochet as a child when my grandma tried to teach me, I taught myself to knit while in my teens.  After 40 or so years of knitting off & on, I picked it up again in January of 2004 as part of my grief therapy in dealing with my father’s death.  For several months, all I could knit was simple dishcloths and towels but the repetitiveness of it really helped me and I needed the creative satisfaction of finishing some projects fairly quickly.  In the fall of 2004 I met an LYSO in the town where I worked who challenged me to expand my skills and horizons.  A trip to a TKGA regional conference in 2005 (Oakland, CA) brought me to realize I was not the “beginner” skill level knitter my brain had been telling me I was, but had reached at least “intermediate” skills.  Robin and some of the regulars at her shop helped me learn to crochet in the summer of 2005 but I really didn’t start crocheting until August, 2007 ~ now its hard to stop me and, as they say, the rest is history.

In addition to knitting & crocheting, I enjoy reading and wish I could travel more.

I think you do beautiful work and I think Pittsburg should be really proud to have a great little LYS!!! I am so glad that you will be speaking for our Chat N Craft at JPL in March. We are so looking forward to it. Hope you keep offering the classes as I hope to be able to come to some this year.

Have a great weekend!! I am sure I will see you before March.

      Thanks! smiling all over
It’s time to be planning my March classes and not too soon to think of April. Is there anything specific you’re interested in? Any particular day of week or time of day best for you? I’m hoping for some comments to help me with planning.

Hi Knitz2..knitterbabe here. Thanks for the heads up on the linen yarn. Didn’t even think about wetting it first to relax the yarn, great idea. Been knitting more than 60 yrs (whew) didn’t know I was that old! Have enough yarn to last for ever but I just can not stand to pass up some of these new yarns. bamboo is on my list next!! How much fun you must have with the key to the yarn treasure door (knit shop) I’ll let you know what pattern is picked for my new adventure yarn.
