New Issue of Cast On

The May-July issue of Cast On, published by The Knitting Guild Association, just arrived. Features include Stitch Anatomy: Knitted Smocking Lesson; Fashion Framework Series: Top-Down Raglan Pullover Lesson; a separate article on Raglan Sleeved Sweaers From the Bottom Up. There is also an excellent article on gauge in the Masters section.

I also still have a few copies of the February-April Cast On featuring a lesson on pullover sweaters, one on slip stitches, and Yarnovers in Plain English as well as a few copies of the November-January issue with a lace workshop included in it.

Birthday Cake Today

In honor of Yarn Basket’s 3rd birthday on April 13, we’re having birthday cake at the shop today, Saturday April 17. I hope everyone likes chocolate.

UPS stopped at the shop today!

There are now more colors of sock yarn — 5 colors of Endurance Sock and a total of 26 colors of Pace & Pace Step. Flax (linen) is now available in white as well as pink, pearl, robin and tarragon. Depending on how much I use for my shop sample, there may also be some flax in turquoise in a couple weeks. I’m nearly finished with the sweater I started for my granddaughter at the DFW Fiber Fest and anxious to try making myself a short sleeved top in the turquoise colorway using the same technique. gotta run, need to get the new ones on the shelf and I need to move some other stuff to make more room.

Had a Great Time!

Back safely from the DFW Fiber Fest ~~ both my daughter and I had a great time. All the way home we talked about “next year” which will be in Grapevine, Texas at a larger facility. Theme and speakers for next year have not yet been determined but if this year was any indication, whatever they choose it will be top notch.

I spent Friday learning the anatomy of and essential measurements needed to crochet a top down sweater without using a pattern. The child size sample I started in class is nearly finished and I’m looking forward to trying the technique for a top for myself. On Saturday morning I learned something about photography and my camera and quite a bit about light. Then in the afternoon I saw and was allowed to touch a gossamer shawl which was knitted approximately 100-120 years ago in Russia.

DFW Fiber Fest

Yarn Basket will be closed Thursday, April 8 through Saturday, April 10 so I may attend the DFW Fiber Fest in the Dallas area. I’m really looking forward to a class in photography to help me take better photos of my yarns and finished projects. On Friday I’m taking an all day class in designing and crocheting a top down sweater and hope to use what I learn there to make myself a linen top to wear this summer.
